Simple definition:

Having conviction over your sin and crying out to God because of a genuine broken heart for breaking His law.

You believe in Jesus, good, now look at the Law to see where you stand with Him. Believing in Jesus is not all there is for salvation, nor is salvation a work we can do to earn everlasting life. Instead, salvation is realizing you can’t save yourself.

Humble yourself before the Lord to acknowledge your sin and cry out for forgiveness to the Lord Jesus.

Salvation is hard because we don’t want to humble ourselves. Yet it is easy once you do humble yourself because everything is laid on Jesus.
